Know What to Expect
How Buying a Firearm Works
Understanding the process removes a lot of the uncertainty. Here is a general, plain-language overview of what buying a firearm can involve. Specific requirements may vary, and you remain responsible for verifying what applies to you.
The general process
- Choose a firearm that fits your purpose, or ask us for guidance.
- Place your order through our Shop or with our team.
- Provide required identification and documentation.
- Complete the applicable background check.
- For applicable firearms, complete the transfer through a licensed dealer (FFL) before taking possession.
This is a general outline. The exact steps can depend on the product, your location, and current law.
Identification and documentation
Valid, government-issued identification and certain documentation may be required to purchase or receive a firearm. Requirements can vary by jurisdiction, and additional documentation may be requested for safety, compliance, or business-policy reasons.
Background checks
Applicable firearm purchases generally involve a background check. This is a standard part of a lawful transfer. If you have questions about your specific situation, consult a qualified professional.
FFL transfers and shipping
Applicable firearms must be shipped to a receiving licensed dealer (FFL) and transferred to you in accordance with federal, state, and local law. Non-firearm products may ship directly to eligible customers. Our shipping and transfer overview explains the difference in detail.
After your purchase
Responsible ownership continues after the sale. Plan for safe transport, secure storage, and, when helpful, training to build confident skills.
Safety Is Non-Negotiable
Safety guides everything we do. Whether you are new to firearms or experienced, these fundamentals always apply.
Safety first. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire, and store firearms securely away from children and prohibited persons. For complete guidance, see our firearm safety and storage page.
Educational & Legal Notice
This is general educational information and is not legal advice. Firearm laws and regulations may change and can vary by jurisdiction. Customers remain responsible for verifying current federal, state, and local requirements. Faith First Firearms may require additional documentation or decline a transaction when necessary for safety, compliance, or business-policy reasons.
